Hi all,

i've installed the latest dnn version on windows 2003 server with iis 6, latest service pack, sql express 2005 but the website is slow, very slow, in loading from remote computers and from local network connections.. Checked yet internet connection and it works good, i've another website on the same server, non aspnet based one (html only), and it works fine, very fast and fine.

What can i do to solve this problem?? Is there something more to configure?

Is the first page slow, or are all pages slow? If it's first page then consider operating a keep alive service.

Sounds like you might need to do some IIS tweaking or possibly firewall problem.

Then again your SQL Server infrustructure may be slow.

Check performance settings within DNN.

Check ping speeds on your network. Do a tracert in case your site is being routed to Iceland and back.

Plenty you can do, I'm sure if you search google you might find tips on optimizing ASP.NET websites, SQL Server etc.

Thanks

Oh and also check DNN event viewer for errors, the Windows 2003 event log, and make sure your portal alias is correct.

If it is a problem with your ASP .Net application loading slowly on the first hit, you can configure IIS to not recycle your worker processes and that will eliminate this problem rather than using a keep alive service.  I set my worker processes to recycle at 5:00am when our site traffic is low - works like a charm.

Keep in mind that doing this only helps on lower traffic sites.  As traffic increases you'll actually slow down the site by not allowing the worker process to recycle.  And it's actually not keeping it from recycling, there are a lot of thresholds that cause a worker process to recycle.  Better than locking up or crashing.
