Unfortunately, social networking APIs were removed from scope in DNN 5.1 since that original post.

Hi Joe, any update on Social APIs in DNN 6? (this is 2 years later).

I have since implemented a 3rd party module to do my Facebook Connect - you can see it in action on PokerDIY (please do test it as I have run out of FB accounts to test ;).

It was not a cheap module and I believe this should be in the core - this has massive benefits and is fairly simple technically (IMHO).

Most users who browse to my site are on FB and it removes an entry barrier. Sign ups have increased a lot.

Which is not surprising in the least.

Rodney,
We are finally getting ready for integration of Social Networking into the core platform.  I expect that this effort will span multiple releases as there is a lot of capability based on the old ActiveSocial product that we want to bake into the core. I do not know if this will include Facebook Connect integration in the first phase but I believe it will be included at some point in 2012.

I would really encourage more (optional) SN integrations like Facebook Connect (and LinkedIn and Twitter) sooner rather than later.

Most of our users are already on one (or more) of these networks and as Rodney pointed out providing an easy path from what they already use to a micro social network only makes sense.

Finally, are there any plans to publish an actual roadmap for the social features so users (and potential users) know what is planned and when it should be delivered?
