I have all of my user data stored with an external provider.  They have webservices exposed to allow single sign on authentication and data querying.  I was wondering if there is a way I can set up my portal to pass the entered credentials to the external webservice and allow entry to the portal based upon receipt of a token from the external webservice.  Any ideas?

Check Michael Washington's blog posts (if you go to the Blogs page you can select only that user's blogs by clicking on their name). I believe he a blog about a web service that's very similar to what you want to do and he usually makes the source code available.

This is close, but I don't have any control over the external application; the provider there already has their webservice exposed.  I think what I'm trying to do is use that webservice as my authentication provider for my DNN portal.

It's a similar approach. In your case you'll need to write a provider that querys the webservice with the user's entered credentials to verify they're valid and then sign the user into DNN if they are.
