Hello,

I work for an organization that publishes information on the web.  We use a "Development" instance and a "Live" instance of DotNetNuke.   Currently we do all of our editing on a seperate installation of DNN, then copy the database content and files to our live instance.  This is not the ideal solution if we have content that is in the process of being edited, and we don't want to go live.  We are looking for a tool that allows content to be "Published" from one DNN instance or portal to another.

The tool we are looking for would be able to copy specific pages, modules, or even a whole portal to another portal or instance of DNN.

Is there any such tool out there?

Thank you,
~Matt

I don't know of a module that transfers pages, modules or portals from one instance to another.  There are content management type modules that allow you to manage the workflow of content a little bit.  They allow you to create an article or peice of content, and then edit / approve it before it then goes live.  As for modules and pages, one thing we often do is just create a page or module that is visible to administrators only, play around with it and test it until it looks right, then set it to all users.  As for testing general configuration/content changes to existing modules of a live site, we unfortunately maintain two environments, a staging (like your dev) and a production environment.  We test the change to staging, and then have to again go make the change to production.  Don't really know of any easy publishing mechanizm out there that makes it any easier.  If you find one, I would be very curious to hear about it.

Thank you for the reply.  Do you have any links to some of these content management modules?  Maybe I can find one of those that can help with what I am looking to do.

I can't remember some of the advanced workflow type publishing modules off the top of my head, partially because I don't use them.  Some of them seem too rigid to me.  However, they may be exactly what you are looking for.  I will do some research and try to come up with some links for you.  In the mean time, perhaps you could explain a little more about what you are looking for.  I have had several customers complain about the general lack of 'publishing control' with DNN.  I think the solution to this problem stretches beyond just modules and may require some sort of common core solution.  If you were willing to detail a little bit more what you and/or your customers are looking for, it may shed some light as to what the proper solution is.

Here are some that may fit your needs.  The only one I have used is the last one from Ventrian, which I can vouch for as being quality, however I don't know if that specific module meets your needs.
