Hello there,

I am currently using DNN version 04.09.00 and have only one default portal. I need to add a portal(?) to create the same content with a different language.  Could some please send me the link to the instructions on how I can get this done? In the Portals directions I see a folder name "_default" and "0"

Do I need to install something or just add a folder somewhere in the portal directory?

Thank you.

Hey shamp,

You shouldn't need to create a new portal to support another language. DotNetNuke supports extensive localization. What type of content do you have currently and what modules are you using?

As far as adding a new portal goes, you log in to your website as a host, navigate to the "host menu" and select "portals", from there you can add a new portal.

Take care,

Ian

I'm not sure what extensive localization means.  It is currently using events, forum, user account, feedback, links, gallery, and text/html modules.  The current informaton (main menu) is english and I want to add the same thing in another language using the same menu layout.  So one menu in english and one menu in another language. The user should only see everything in english if they select english version, does it make sense?  I had created sublinks in the menu for the other language but thats not how I want it.  The default home page is http://domainname.org (in english) will the other language be in http://domainname.org/newfoldername?

Thank you,

shamp,

All I meant by extensive localization is that everything (all text) in the core framework can be localized to any given language. However, most modules don't support content localization. Therefore if you want to accomplish complete localization of all of YOUR content, you'd need to pick modules that have that capability. There is a text/html module out there that let's you select the language you want to enter from a drop-down. that would be enough to achieve a simple site. However, if you want to use modules that don't have that kind of feature (and it's worth it to you to introduce the overhead) - you're probably right in creating a new portal.

I would go to the Host -> Portals page and export your current portal to a template file, and then create a new portal from it.

This is a blog post on creating a new portal -> it doesn't mention the templating, but you'll see a template drop down where you can select your exported template.

Hope that helps,
