A quick question here: Is DNN 4.9.0 set up as a WAP project(s) or WSP? Further more, is/will DNN 5.0 be set up as a WAP or WSL project? I've not downloaded or installed yet and knowing this will help my planning a little bit. Thanks

Hey Lindsay,

4.9 is a Web Site Project, as is 5.0 RC2

Hope that helps,

Ian

WOW, that is disappointing indeed. One would think that with VS2008 supporting WAP, the DNN team might want to build the solution as a WAP framework/project/solution. That would make t all so much easier to work with and not jump through a whole lot of loops just to get modules THAT are being built in a WAP, to work well within the DNN solution, just like the VS2003 "era". Hope someone from the core team reads this and IF there is an easy way to include WAP projects into WSP solutions, let me know. It was a pain doing that in VS2005 although I did get that to work thanks to Michael Washington...

Personally I don't find that there is any issue with WAP development against DNN as a WSP site.  All of my WAP modules exist outside of the DNN solution, as honestly there is NO need for a module to be inside of the DotNetNuke solution.

I know that I would like to see DNN go to WAP to be able to support pre-compiled deployments, but I know there are a number of issues out there.  But I can also tell you that this has been discussed before and I know it is something that the core team keeps an eye on to see if it makes sense to migrate the core to a different project type.

However, a large amount of investigation is needed to ensure that breaking changes are not introduced for existing WAP/WSP modules.

Mitch, thanks for the reply. I fully understand the implications of moving back to a WAP type, certainly not to be taken lightly. I normally create my module projects in a WAP then "include" those in the DNN solution. I've yet to do ANYTHING in vs2008 but am awaiting DNN 5.0 to be officially released before I go down that path. Any tips/links I should look at that cover issues between WSP (DNN) and WAP (modules) development? And the BIG question everyone keeps asking: any idea when DNN 5.0 will be officially released. Thanks, Lindsay
