Frozen,

Knowing your sites as well as I do, I would say that is not adequate for you.  I hope I don't offend you, but looking at that configuration I can't really see the advantage over a high quality shared hosting account.  Yes, you have more control over the server, but you can find dedicated servers with better specs.  I'm not sure what you are paying for that config, but I know you can get a dedicated server that tops that for about $119/month.

Feel free to email me directly if you want.

By the way, you won't ever find anyone saying that the reason they choose to use VPSes are because they are fast.  Really, the main two reasons to use a VPS are:

1)  Cost (They are cheaper)
2)  Manageability

Even though we don't sell VPSes anymore, we still use them in-house.  They work absolutely wonderful for "utility" servers such as our monitoring server, our provisioning server, etc where you don't care about performance.

EDIT:
If you're interested in going physical, give me a call sometime tomorrow and we can talk.  I'll definately cut you a deal.

Hi Tony,

Two years ago.. what version was that?  Sounds like it was a pre 4.6 era.  I belive it was around that version where all the internal caching was put in that greatly reduced all that chatter.  It would be interesting to see what HP would show with 4.9 on more current hardware.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Toni,

I think you're spot on. The fact that they are cheaper is, for me, at this moment the most important reason. If things go crazy I wouldn't mind going to a dedicated server but at this moment this is out of my league.

Marc,

I agree with Will, that even though VPS allow more control on the server, high quality shared hosting will provide you with better performance (and, if you choose a hoster with DNN expertise, better support and configuration).
