Hello DNN community,

I created this site using plain plain HTML and CSS for a friend a while back now. I then decided to experiment turning it into a DNN site so they could edit the content themselves.

Mostly it went well and looked just fine when viewing, however when you go into edit or design mode the content gets shifted out of place due to the extra widths etc. added by the plugins and it is quite confusing for a user.

The CSS layout is two column fixed with and I'm wondering if there is a standard approach or template for dealing with this kind of thing?

I've watched a video tutorial which mentioned how tables were good for this because they resize nicely to cater for the content but I don't want to use tables for layout.

Maybe I should be using fluid/liquid layouts or make my columns bigger? I'm not a CSS guru at all.

Thanks, Matt

yes this can be a irritating in css layouts. Try making the divs a little less wide and use float left en float right on both columns.

Thanks Peter,

Do you mean float left for the left column and float right for the right column? That's what I'm currently doing but I could always make the columns smaller as you say but wouldn't that mean even less would fit in them?

Regards,

Matt

Tables don't even help that much if you have a fixed width layout.

The only way I've been able to have a skin not "break" when in edit mode is to have a graphical layout the isn't fixed, for example the masthead up top is a repeatable gradiant or solid color, same with the content area, so that even though it's wider it doesn't look "broken" persay.
