Hi all,

I'm new in DNN, and I started to create a DNN website, I created a virtual directory in the Default Web Site folder of IIS, pointing to the DNN install directory, it worked, then I wanted to create a parent portal, but I failed.

Here is my steps :

1. go the hosts file enter one entry
127.0.0.1 myfirstparentportal(My OS is windows server 2003, so its directory is C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc)

2. go to IIS control to set up
I create a virtual directory to myfirstparentportal and map it to the DNN install directory just like the original DNN website.

3. bring up the DNN ->host ->protals -> set protal alias as myfirstparentportal  to custom the directory to the directory I set in the IIS.
But it idoes not work. Can u tell me what's the problem?

Any help will be appreciated!

Thansk,

Jed

  1. add myfirstparentportal as portal alias in DotNetNuke (as you did before)
  2. in IIS configuration create a web site (not virtual directory!) pointing to your DNN installation folder
  3. in IIS configuration remove virtual directory

That's the normal internet error:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

  • You are not connected to the Internet.
  • The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.
