I'm having a similar problem.

I RDP into my Server 2008; I added an alias under Host|Portals|Advanced Settings... [http://192.168.1.10/DotNetNuke]; I cannot remove the previous alias [localhost/DotNetNuke]

No change in behavior.

I can access the default site (IIS 7 Banner) on http://192.168.1.10 from my desktop just fine.  I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when I try http://192.168.1.10/DotNetNuke

Resolved:

Do not use "http://" when entering Alias.

Hmm, it would be a usefl  enhancement to filter the protocol prefix, when entering the Alias in Site Settings.

Follow-up problem with Login:

Everything with DNN5 (Server 2008/SQL 2008) works fine behind my router...

I have a domain name I am forwarding to my WAN IP address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/DotNetNuke).  I've added that address as an Alias in DNN.

I can see my website; I can click on Login and get the login page; if I type the wrong password I get an error message.  If I type in the correct password I am delivered back to the Home page but it does not log me in.  No display of my name; no access to Admin & Host pages...nothing in the Event Viewer.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Resolved:

I had the Godaddy feature "Forward with Masking" enabled to hide that the domain was being forwarded to my local home network.  Unenabling fixed that; everything is cool.

Any ideas on how to make it work with "Forward with Masking" enabled?

Thanks!
