I get the following error when trying to use the list view.

Steps:

1.  Install fresh Events module

2.  Change to list view

3.  Click add event from module drop down list

Results:

Error: Events is currently unavailable.

this has been a know inssue in a previous version, are you using latest version from the download page here?

I think you probably only need to update the module settings. It looks like it is missing a template.

My production site has version 4.00.02 and the list view works correctly there.  Events 4.01 is the one with the bug.
