Dear i have the following situation.

i have 1 parent portal and four child portals,

the parent portal has the menu as horizontal

but the child portals have thier menus as vertical

now i want to see the parent portal menu on the child portal as well

there may be two solution for this

1. i could have two different menus on the child portals and build replica of the parent menu

2. i could (some how) call the menu from the parent portal on the child portls

does any one have any idea on both of the above situation. if yes please give me hit

thanks in advance

If you don't mind a commercial module, the DNNMasters SiteMap module can be used as a navbar (it's templated). It can be set to display the pages for any portal in the DNN instance.

Hope this helps.

I should have mentioned that a less automated method is to create new pages in the child portal, and set them to point to the corresponding pages in the parent portal (and vice versa, if you want). This is fine if you have just a few pages. But if you have a lot of pages or need automatation, the module I just mentioned might be the solution for you.

Thanks Steve. i definitely wont mind if gets the job done...

i have approx 15 pages in the parent portal...

i tried your second option as well but faced following two problems

1. when i used two [NAV]s it gave me error.. so i used one [NAV] and other [MENU]. it worked but i am not sure weather this is recommended or not any way it worked as for as having two menus is concerned

2. the pages i enter are also displayed in the child portal as well.. which i do not need.. every child portal has its own menu... and this menu is completly diffferent from the parent portal

is there any work around that the pages i enter only appear in the one [MENU] or [NAV]

thanks in advance

Ok, I kind of understand the functionality youre looking for, and I think you can achieve it in the following way:

In your parent portal try placing an iframe module, being it the only existant module in the whole page, and set its url to call your a default child portal. In this child portal you could use a simplified skin that implements the menu as you need it. The navigation of this child portal would take place in the same IFrame module, so you wont need to replicate the parent components at all, since you never really abandon the parent portal page =).

If you need to navigate thru several child portals, you can use a skin with hardcoded links to the other child portals, which is used by all the child portals so that they can call themselves at any time.

Alternatively, you could develop a custom skin object that would automatically add a link for each child portal in your dnn website.

Hope this helps, ciao!
