Dear Scott Willhite

I read one of your replies regarding the c# version of DNN. Is there any progress and when can we have the c# version available for download. It would be of real worth to get both the versions of DNN ( vb.net and c#.)Forgive me if i have misread or not understood the post.But i am despaerately looking for the c# version for DNN.I am new on DNN and inerested in c# version.The last message posted regarding the c# version of DNN was in 2005 so just thought that maybe things have been finalised by now and hope some progress is done for the c# version.

Thanks in advance

The original message is still current. Untill there is a tool that can automatically translate vb.net to c# without any need to manual check anything, this would just add an extra difficulty to maintaining releases

<personal opinion>

Quite frankly i really don't understand why people always request a c# version. I never heard just one good argument for either language other than personal taste. Really if you know how to program against the .net framework, and you know c#, you should be able to understand vb.net code just the same. The syntactic differences are just marginal. On top of that, we STRONGLY discourage people to make core modifications as this will simple cut of their upggrade path.

</personal opinion>

for the record: my personal opinions are not to be extrapolated to the DNN core team, or the DNN Corporation....

sorry, if the pinned post is not clear, but there is no C# version and there are no current plans to create it - except we find an option to create it automatically without binding development resources. We do not see a real need for a C# version, because you shouldn't modify the core framework code, and any extension can be created in any .Net language, there are multiple module templates available in VB.Net and C# and a couple of bundled as well as 3rd party modules and providers are written in C# - and besides, IMHO, any .Net developer should be able to read and understand code written in C# and VB.Net, even if he does not feel confortable to create code in either language.

I guess Sayyed's motivation is to be able to understand the framework. This is a valid reason for wanting a C# version, IMO. I do the same (but in the VB direction) when I'm trying to get to the bottom of code that is not mine (like my work on the RssToolkit for instance). It can be frustrating to adapt when you know that it is just your own language but in another syntactical form. It just takes up brain processing cycles unnecessarily. So what what it's worth: I find Sharpdevelop to be one of the best translators around.

Note that it is unnecessary to have a perfect translation as you're just trying to read the code with less effort, not rebuild it. Rebuilding, as has been well explained above, is something you should not want to do.
