This is either a product bug, or documentation bug. DNN 5.0.0 (and 4.9x too, and possibly all prior) require High or Full trust in IIS 7 / Windows Server 2008 in my experience. Running with the documented Medium trust causes a failure (see text below). With 4.9, the failure causes infinite 302's and loads the server. Isn't affected by Integrated or Classic pipeline modes.

This is using SQL 2008 and happens in two entirely separate environments. Clean install (DNN & database) was performed immediately prior to the test. Network Service has full rights to directory and db.

Make sure AJAX is fully installed on your server.

From my perspective I've been testing DNN on Windows XP, using medium trust (web.config) throughout, so far no problems but of course you have a different environment.

I get the same error when I try to browse to Install/InstallWizars.aspx.

The error is:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.UI.Utilities.MSAJAX.Serialize(Object Obj) at DotNetNuke.UI.Utilities.ClientAPI.SerializeClientVariableDictionary(Page objPage, Dictionary`2 objDict) at DotNetNuke.UI.Utilities.ClientAPI.CAPIPreRender(Object Sender, EventArgs Args) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnPreRender(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlInputHidden.OnPreRender(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Control.PreRenderRecursiveInternal() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

When I try to go to default.aspx, I get this error:

DotNetNuke

DotNetNuke Error: - Version 05.00.00

Error An error has occurred.
An error has occurred.

The header shows this:

http://devserver/4PPRO/Default.aspx?tabid=38&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

Any Ideas?
