I was attempting to start my development install of dnn today, and was automatically sent to a page that says "Upgrading DotNetNuke", despite never having initiated an upgrade. Clicking the link that says "Click here to access your portal" or loading any url from this site just sends me back to the same upgrade page.

The upgrade status report says:
00:00:00.015 - Upgrading to Version: 4.8.2
00:00:00.031 - Performing General Upgrades

which is strange, because this was an installation of version 4.8.4. This installation is under version control, so I am certain no changes have been made since the last working version; this has happened entirely on its own.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Can anyone offer a suggestion on what could have caused this?

if you are upgrading from a version prior to 4.8.2, upgrade to 4.8.2 is intended, because upgrade scripts are incremental, however the subsequent action should finish, otherwise I suggest to restore previous backup and retry. Which version are you on and which do you want to upgrade to?

I don't want to upgrade. It did this on its own. I just want to access the portal like normal, but I'm stuck at this upgrade screen for no apparent reason.

There is a setting in the web.config for AutoUpgrade.

You can try setting that to AutoUpgrade="False" and see if that gets you out of the loop at least.

 That was the culprit. Still not sure why the upgrade was stuck but I can access the portal again. Thanks for the help.
