 Hi Core Team / Corp,

I've got a question regarding how DotNetNuke talks to the database.

In most .NET apps, when you talk to the database, usually you follow a model something like:

OPEN
READ/WRITE
CLOSE

I know that DotNetNuke does this as well.

My question is, why is it that when you pull up SQL Server Profiler or Activity Monitor, you can always expect to see 2-3 active connections to the database per active site regardless whether or not the site is being run at that time.

Any ideas?

Tony,

all calls to the database are executed via MS Data Access Application Block, you'll find documentation for it on MSDN.

 Hi Sebastian,

I know that.  :)  I also know that the version of Enterprise Library that ships with DotNetNuke is _quite_ old (DotNetNuke uses version 2.0 but version 4.1 is out!).  Do you know why DotNetNuke usually keeps a couple of extra connections floating around?

Toni,

maybe it is the scheduler? in timer mode it uses a separate thread to accomplish its work.
