I ask because I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be anyone that would call this ready for a production system.  I've now tested this a dozen or more times, upgrading test sites, installing fresh, installing 4.9.1 fresh and upgrading...  I understand third party modules not working, I understand the miscellaneous correctbale issues like DLL's in the wrong place and I understand the skinning issues.  But I don't think I've been able to duplicate most of the problems I've hit.  I had login issues, but only on about half the tries.  I had very few problems upgrading an old version, I locked an upgrade of 4.9.1 with a default install. About the only thing I have reliably gotten to work was fresh installs to Windows Server 2003/IIS6, with some tweaking to make up for already logged issues.

Venting over.  I'm actually used to these types of issues with a first release in a new version of just about anything.  What I don't understand is some of the posts that are showing up that are very critical of DNN.  Yeah, I think the release may have been premature, and maybe too much legacy code was left in place for compatibility, but I haven't envisioned using DNN 5.x for production for months, if even then.  Has anyone really considered this release to be ready for production and attempted to use it without testing?  Is everyone that eager to get the bleeding edge versions?

Actually I had.  I installed it on a new website that I'm working on and for the most part everything was going ok.  However, after the last 2 hours of trying to figure something out and finally realized that it's probably a bug, I will be going back to my 4.9.1 install.

I'm running it on Snapsis.com.

I'm not saying it is ready for production, but since I pre-compile it and fix any issues myself I have it working with all my modules, Active Forums, and Catalook.

My CSS NavMenu required a change for DNN5 because one of the TabInfo properties was made ReadOnly, but PageBlaster didn't require any changes.

You can see Will Morganweck's forum post which includes a link to the video showing their upgrade process to DotNetNuke 5.0.

Jeff, my biggest hearburn in this whole process is that we have had DotNetNuke 5 RC2 available since the beginning of November with very few issues being logged against it.  Had we gotten more feedback that indicated stability problems we likely would have delayed this release for one more round.  That is not to say that there were not some issues created in the final packaging - there certainly were, but there are a lot of the problems being discussed which should have been found long before the final release.  As an Open Source project we absolutely rely on feedback for major releases being a collaborative effort with the community.

The good news is that we are getting lots of good bug reports now, many of which will be fixed for the next version which should be out in a couple of weeks.

Joe,

The DotNetNuke user community is so large, and there are so many colleagues here with more resources and technological knowledge than me, that I just didn't think it would matter if I tested DotNetNuke 5 release candidates. Your posting shows me that I was wrong. I certainly could have installed it on our server and tested. Please accept my apologies for not being more proactive. I plan to change that, and I'm sure I have plenty of company here in that regard.

Steve
