DNNCreative Magaine (dnncreative.com) is a subscription site with a number of tutorials.  There are a number of (IMHO) very good tutorials regarding skinning, and are current for versions 4.x of DotNetNuke.

As for creating your own skin, it is often helpful to start with a working skin, and modify it to your needs.

uhh okay now what do I do? How do I preview the skin? I made my own folder in Skins and put in these files from the starter kit:

container.css, container.xml, dotnetnuke skin.vstemplate, skin.css, skin.xml

But when I go to Admin>Skins>Sleek(my skin name) it says no skin files exist in this folder. How do I get to that? Documentation.html doesn't explain enough for me.

if this helps this is what my cute ftp looks like now:

Um yeah I'd probably do that, I'm kind of familiar with DNNcreative but I really don't have the money to pay for a subscription I'd probably do it if there was a month subscription or something, or maybe I can get it for my birthday but idk.
