In this never ending story nothing make sence. All we know it was not included in 3.x , 4,x and 5.1 and has been in the roadmap since 2.x.

Sebastian,

thanks for your answer. Localization is certainly critical for many of us, and understading how to move, what road to follow, would help planning next months work: hope you can squeeze some info from Shaun before October! :-)

Bye,

al.

All,

it's being worked on for the next relase, but the scope is not finalised yet as it's potentially very broad e.g. should it include localised host settings, list items, page names, internatialised friendurl's, upgraded modules etc. Also, the implementation details are not finalised, as there are a few choices (e.g. include language in the page url [either as a virtualised folder or querystring] or make pages unique per language with an intermediate router etc.). We're also trying to take into account existing solutions.

Jan, your comment on PE is unhelpful and FUD - localisation is a key function and will be added to the core as per any other key function.

Cathal I fear that it will be PEonly and my uncertainty is a result of the information I have or not have and the past. My doubt is for the same reason.

If its unhelpful, maybe but now we know that it will be in next release and it will be implemented in both versions. I take that as a promise from you and I trust you.

Thanks I think this helped a lot , Thanks for the new information.

Jan,

when drawing up roadmap items we elicit feedback from many sources including gemini enhancements, community rquests and subject matter experts. For this item we reached out to experts such as Sebastian and Peter Donker who kindly provided lists of what they'd like to see (these lists themselves also contain aggregated information from other sources such as Erik). In additon we add other items that we believe need looked at such as urlrewriting international url's. Once these have been detailed, we consider implementations of these to maximise their reach and minimise any problems with existing solutions -ideally we'd like to avoid any conflicts with existing 3rd party solutions. Once that's done, we can estimate the effort and determine what version(s) the enhancements can be targetted for. What's important to note here is that without having corp revenue and support many of these efforts would be effectively impossible i.e. what can be achieved by a few fulltime paid resources would take years via volunteer efforts. The existance of the corp (and PE version which underwrites the corp employees) allows us to attempt much more ambitious projects, including items such as localization, a longstanding community request.

As to PE, Nik posted the Corp status @ http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2225/DotNetNuke-Business-Model-and-Product-Roadmap-Part-1-of-2.aspx , explaining what the opencore means. This essentially means that we add items to the opencore by default, so both versions benefit. Of course we could add additional extensions such as modules that might add additional business value for PE users - at this point in time I'm not aware of any plans for this in the localization area.
