Casper makes a good point regarding the age of your installation, though I'd expect even 3.1 to allow you to search more than two user profile fields.  I think in this case the issue is more than just an old version of DNN (see my previous response). 

To Casper's point, though -- if you have an opportunity to launch a "fresh" version of your site you should most certainly move to version 4.9.1 (I'm not sold on 5.0 yet due to the lack of support from many, many third-party modules).  Also I'd recommend a "clean" installation (not an upgrade) and manually copy/recreate content from the old site to the new.

Just checked an old 3.2.2 install - just username and e-mail fields are searchable. Too bad...

Totally agree. If you've got the opportunity, start from scratch on 4.9.1. It's a bit harder if you've got any custom modules though.
