Hi all,

This one's new to me and has just caused a serious mess :(

I run a single DNN portal system with bunch of portals on it. I have custom profile fields on the registration form on one portal. One of the fields is called "Category" and it has several items on it. Some months later, I added custom fields to the registration form on another portal. Again, one of these fields is labeled "Category". I added a bunch of items to it and carried on.

Today I discover (by way of a complaint) that the items on the first category list have been replaced by all the items on the newer list.

So the question is: Are profile fields not unique to a given portal? And if not then why on earth not?

Any insight is much appreciated.

Rob

Although I have not tried using a custom profile field (of type list) in a multi-portal situation, what I know from working closely with the property editor controls would indicate that while the fields themselves are unique per portal, two property fields of type list with the same profile property name would share the same host list. If I recall correctly, the host list used to fill the drop down list, etc. is selected solely by the name of the property without regard to the PortalId.

Not an ideal design . . .

Thanks for the reply Bill,

I also recalled that lists are the same for all portals so I went and had a look at the Lists on the host menu to see if the one I created for the profile was showing up in there... but it wasn't, so I came here to check.

I'll put it in Gemini and hopefully profile lists can be made unique in a future update. In the meantime portal admins need to be told that their profile changes might overwrite those of other portals.

Lists table has been given the option to support portal specific values, but I assume, that not all property definitions make use of it. Be also aware, that there is no UI to edit per portal lists outside the property definition wizard.
