"Upgraded from DNN 4.8.4 to 5.0."

ha.   I'll bet ya that 5.0 has never seen an upgrade from 4.8.4 during development.   If it had, they would have seen many issues (per the other thread).

Brian rather than laugh at the sidelines and do nothing, why don't you test an upgrade from 4.8.4 to 5 and let us know what happens? (you had the oppertunity in RC, why didn't you do this eh? :-). And whilst you are at it check out all the other DNN versions, not forgetting to test every piece of functionality in DNN. Very good luck and let us know.

Now back to diagnosis, so we can attempt to fix issues and possibly put fixes in later DNN versions:

a) When you say you can't upload, why, is the upload button greyed out?
b) Obvious question, the folder you are trying to upload to, what permissions are set there in file manager?
c) Do you have any errors in the event viewer?
d) Do you see any error messages anywhere else (i.e. after clicking upload?)

Can other people post their versions before they upgraded please who are having this issue?

I lost track of 5.0 about 8 months after it's due date... sorry.   As did the other 655815 unique users DotNetNuke always talks about in it's press releases.

I did post the results, too many issues.   Unfortunately, we have to wait over a month to get 5.0.1.   Can't you tell I'm not the only one getting bogged down by the slowness, lack of testing and no communication?

If you are upgrading to 5.0 from anything prior to 4.9, you are asking for problems.  5.0 shouldn't even be available for download.

Facts are facts.  I'm not attempting anything with 5.0 until 5.0.1 and then I will do a test upgrade and report the results.   We were already told, there will be not a beta for 5.0.1.   This is terrible.   It's a new RC of 5.0 as 5.0 is not valid for upgrades.

This really isn't as complicated as it's becoming.

So you are complaining that DNN 5 took too long whilst at the same time you are complaning that it was released too early. Well that's a good argument.

Actually by releasing 5 we've had the best feedback we've ever had. It's a double edged sword, release and gets complaints about testing, or don't release and don't get much feedback. Your comments are so perfect for this scenario.

In the case of 5.0.1, release too early then some people will say "why didn't you fix the bug?", if we release too late people will complain "why is it taking so long!" (it's just like everything else). Regardless we will always have something to complain about won't we? It's far easier to sit back and moan then actually go and sort something out, or spend time helping out.

You are saying no communication - do you follow Gemini? Are you expecting deadlines? Why don't you speed things up by developing your own fixes, or maybe pay somebody to supply the fixes?

People are working hard on 5.0.1 in a lot of different ways, and I amoungst others are making sure issues get into Gemini so we don't get repeat complaints for the next version so we get "happier customers". Now if you paid us to do this then maybe there is some justification, but this is OPEN SOURCE... Currently your contributions for us non-paid workers (we are not Microsoft) drags morale down, now is this a good thing or a bad thing? Is this really going to speed things up and help?

I seem to remember the president of the USA saying once...

"And so, my fellow DotNetNukers: ask not what DotNetNuke can do for you - ask what we all can do for DotNetNuke!".

Anyway haven't we had this discussion before? I'm sort of bored of it :).

Now let's back to filemanager issue and try and do something constuctive rather than vent (we are both off topic).... I am anxious to find out what is going on here, if we can't and it's a bug then there will be probably no fix for 5.0.1 (unless we are lucky).

I did not know I should upgrade to 4.9.0 first.  My fault.  I loaded the source code on my machine and backed up the database and restored to SQL server 2005 SP2.  I just finished installing VS 2008.  I usually program in C#, but I will debug this problem and post my results.  Like everyone else, I am just a bit busy.
