This is happening on DNN 4.4.0.  We just removed one of the portals from our site and after that we are noticing that whenever we attempt to login with the ADMIN user we get the following error:

"A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
 

Did we mess something up by removing the portal or is this error resulting from something totally different, and how might I resolve this?

One assumes you are using another portal to log in.
When you see this error message what is the URL?
Assuming you can log in as host, what is the full error message in the event viewer?
