Hey!

I am building a skin for DNN 4 and need to know how to skin the DNN Nav.

Here is an example of a Nav menu:

<dnn:NAV runat="server"
id="dnnNAV"
ProviderName="DNNMenuNavigationProvider"
ControlOrientation="Horizontal"
CSSControl="MainMenu_MenuBar"
CSSContainerRoot="MainMenu_MenuContainer"
CSSContainerSub="MainMenu_SubMenu"
CSSNode="MainMenu_MenuItem"
CSSNodeHover="MainMenu_MenuItemHover"
CSSIcon="MainMenu_MenuIcon" />

There is alot of CSS properties but I can´t find any information about what they do?

I need the following

  1. CSS container för the menu itself to be able to position it
  2. CSS container for the middel(the left part could also be included) part of the node
  3. CSS container for the left and right part of a node where I can set round corners of the node
  4. CSS container for 2 and 3 but with hover
  5. CSS container for 1-4 but for the sub menu
  6. It would also be nice if the menu could be rendered as unordered list(UL)

Thanks for helping!

If you want true styling abillity and unordered list output I would go for the Snapsis navmenu, it has a template engine giving you full control over the output of the html

in dnn4 as wel as dnn 5 the navmenu doenst follow unordered list standards. dnn navmenu is a lot of nested spans and not easy to style ( in my opinion compared to unordered list )

Thanks!

I have seen in other threads that it is posible to set rendermode in the dnn navmenu to ouput unordered list?

Snapsis navmenu looks nice but it is not free and In this case I am aiming on a totaly free solution even if it involves a bit more work.

Is there no explanations on how to skin the dnn menu? What css properties to set to achieve serten look and so on?

The rendermode issue should be solved in the upcoming DNN 5.0.1 release, but it will nog give you a "clean" UL.

It replaces the spans with an UL structure, the menu is the same.

On this page the first download has some more info on the menu:

Hi Snowjim,

I too have been looking into the menu's extensively as of late, while searching for the solution to my problems I have found one for you. There is a video all about the Menu and how to skin it, you can find it at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/1874/New-Video-Available-Demonstrating-New-CSS-Capabilites-in-DNNMenu-v2-0.aspx, the video is around 24MB and I know that this will give all the answers you are looking for,  except for your question on the CSS container för the menu itself to be able to position it. There is no default container for this unless you are editing the default skin. Try wrapping the menu with a div tag and either set the alignment or make a style for it.

Hope this all helps and you get done what you need to do.
