Hi there,

Looking at creating a simple website on DNN, I have it installed and tested the modules I need - looks good. Now I wanted to start preferebly painless design on my site (I have experience with both HTML and ASP/JSP). I can figure bits out myself by looking from the documentation but - I have to say it's lacking examples which make it usually easier and quicker.

Does anyone know - from experience what is the best documentation/ book to use I have limited time for this so would appreciate any suggestions to help me "hit the ground running" ? I'm using DNN v5

Kind regards,

Pav

I think "Beginning DotNetNuke skining and Design" by Anrdew Hay, might be good for you.

Beginning DotNetNuke skining and Design - looks good but it doesn't state which version it's based on so should I not be a bit worried about the differences (I'm on v5)?

DotNetNuke Websites Problem Design Solution -looks good too but again I'm worried about the version not being specified.

"Professional DotNetNuke 5: Open Source Web Application Framework for ASP.NET" has some of the skinning explained - but would that be enough?

DotNetNuke 5 User's Guide: Get Your Website Up and Running (Paperback) - looks good but has it got enough technical info?

If you know any of these books please let me know.

Let me know how did you start designing sites with DNN - if you had a smooth start that is.

How bit are the differences between version 4 - and 5 in terms of skining, styling?

I much appreciate your help.

Pav

I learned skinning from the skinning documentation, I bought the book later.

There are some differences between DNN 4 and 5 skinning but the principles are still the same, there is a thread on top of the "Make it Hot" forum wich explains  the differences.

The main thing to learn is about are the skin objects and that's covered by the book I mentioned, but also by the DNN 5 pro book, but in les detail.

One thing about the current skinning documentation (the pdf), it is a bit "old" we are working on new documentation.

Most of what's in there is still valid, just one advise. Do not use the solpart menu, use  the DnnMenu.

Solpart is not being developed anymore.
