Hey all,

I want to be able to setup user permission so that users can edit the contents of a page - AND and new modules to that page -

BUT

For this to work - I need the controlpanel to be available to the user - to select new modules etc.

BUT I dont want that user to have acces to the page functions of the control panel.

Seems like a simple request to me - but cant seem to make sense of how to make this work

Wes,

I haven't tested this myself recently, but you should be able to simply give them "edit" permissions to a specific page.  That should get them what you need.

FYI -- Just did a quick verification in an older DNN version (4.6.2).  Giving EDIt rights to a specific user for a single page allows that user access to "Page Functions" in the Control Bar and includes "ADD" new page function.  The "Common Tasks" options are made inactive except for "HELP".

Hi Mitch,

That is what I would have assumed as well.

But in fact if you give a user EDIT permissions - they still have full acces to the page add, edit, delete functions in DNN 5.0

Looking at the code for the ICON control panel - there seems to be no permission code at all for the Page functions
but yes this is permission control code for the Tools on the right -- that is access user settings, portal settings etc - those are controlled by the permissions currently set to the modules on the pages they target.

So - hmm - can anyone maybe tell me how to register a new ControlPanel - at the moment there is Classic and Icon - is there some easy way to register a new control panel - that way I can use it for now - till this gets sorted out in core ...

Since it seems like a REALLY core omission for  edit single page only users who can see the control panel to have the ability to ADD and new Page = or delete the page they are on.

Westa
