'Install new module' would be the way to go, both for installating a completely new module from fresh or to install a new (version of an existing) module.

We (as most module developers) have taken great care to make the module install perform without problem, both for a new install as well as an upgrade. Its one of the benefits of the DNN framework and design.

Please note that the minimum DNN version for the next Events version will be DNN 4.7.0 or higher. As Roger advised: upgrade your DNN installation to the latest release (4.9.1) to stay current.

Hey Roger,

Thanks for your help.  Just so I am clear, is the correct way to install a module that is technically an upgrade, would it be to 'Install new module', from the Module definitions page, or would it be to edit the existing module in some way?

Thanks again for your help,
Michael

As Ernst Peter said, yes use 'Install new module'. However, note what I said in my previous post. You must be at least on DNN 4.5.5 to use Events 4.0.2. For Events 4.1.1, you must be on DNN 4.7.0.

Hey Rodger,

Also, what is the best way to roll back, we restored the Hosting company's backup only to find it is only a DB backup.  At this time, upgrading DNN isn't an option.  If I just install Events 3.X will that fix the problem?  Do I need to make sure it is the version that we originally had?  Do I need to blast the events folder down in the site root first?  I would like to try to keep the existing events that were already on calendars scatterd around the site.

The school is planning a big website upgrade in the summer, and that is when we will do our big DNN upgrade.

Thanks for your help,
Mike

Hi Mike,

To roll it back, you could potentially achieve this by restoring the database, and reinstalling 3.3.7 - assuming you have made no other changes to the databse. This could be risky though, and I'd want to try it in a test environment first!!

Unfortunately you can't just re-install 3.3.7, since that would not roll-back the changes made to the database when you did the upgrade.

If you know your way around a database, it would also be possible to take a copy of the relevant tables, uninstall the module, reinstall 3.3.7 or 3.3.8, then copy the data back into the table, updating ModuleID where neccessary.

Honestly? The upgrade from DNN 4.5.2 to 4.5.5 is the simplest choice. Given you would want to test any of these scenarios, the upgrade would take only a few minutes to achieve apart from the effort of setting up the test environment.

Cheers
Roger
