I'm going to be building a multiple language site, so I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the state of the art in DotNetNuke sites that support multiple languages.  What are people using?  What works?  What doesn't work?  Where are the gaps?

I'm particularly interested in:

  • Menus that support multiple languages
  • Modules

I also have requirements to make certain pages/tabs visible or not visible depending on the language that is selected.  How?

I may need to make some modules appear/disappear depending on the language.  How?

And, I'm just generally interested in how people go about the task of building a website that supports multiple languages.  Are there any showcase sites that do multiple languages?  Where?

Thanks!

I'd recommend the DSLocalizator (I think it's by Locopon).

It's free and allows you to do what you want (with some effort).

One thing to watch for with the Localizator is that if you're using a different Home page for different languages, to make sure you specify it as such.  It's an easy thing to overlook (otherwise, the site logo won't link to the desired language).

There are multiple solutions to provide multilingual page settings (for Page title, menu and breadcrumbs): Free DSLocalizator from dnn.tiendaboliviana.com, free EALO to be found in the DNN forge and PageLocalization from www.apollo-software.nl, which has a nice admin interface and even supports redirect per language.

There are a couple of ML modules with different UI, check out the developers mentioned before as well as MagicContent (free, in Forge), MagicNews and MagicLinks from www.portalfabrik.net.
