hello ppl

I am trying to play an avi file on the Media module and i get the following error when I try to upload the file. I use my localhost cause I am just learning and training.

The File C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dnn5\Portals\0\Xtreme_RC_Test.avi Is A Restricted File Type. Valid File Types Include ( *. swf, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.jpe, *.gif, *.bmp, *.png, *.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, *.pdf, *.txt, *.xml, *.xsl, *.css, *.zip ). Please Contact Your Hosting Provider If You Need To Upload A File Type Which Is Not Supported.

Anyone canhelp me with this?

thnx

For any unsupported file type, you need to login to your portal as a Host, and then add the extension in the Host Settings.  The Host Settings will be found as the first child page in the Host menu.  Simply add your extension to the comma-delimited list of extension, and then click the Update button at the bottom of the page.  Then, you will be able to upload that specific file type.

The restriction is in place for security reasons, to prevent people from uploading harmful files.

For your convenience, I just threw together a blog entry about it:
