Hi Sebastian and thanks for your continued support.

  • make sure, asp.Net 2.0 or above is installed on the server.

In the control panel>add remove programs I see  ASP application pack 1.0. Under web services extensions in IIS I see ASPNET 2.0.50.527 set as allowed

  • make sure, the web site is set to support ASP.Net 2.0 (there should be a tab in web site properties)

I do not see such tab, under http headers tab I can see  x-powered by aspnet. Under home directory tab, in the loalc path section (set correctly) I see that "read""log visit" and Index this resource are checked, while "Script source" "Write" " Directory Browsing" are unchecked.

  • make sure, Network Service has full permission to install directory and all subdirectories

I confirm network services has full permission

  • if you are on a server, you should install DNN in a web site root - no virtual directory required

Dnn is installed in c:\mywebsite, in IIS I had to set the virtual directory and I called it mywebsite.

  • on a web server, always call your site using external address (www.mydomain.com or whatever)

My web server allows to manage 10 domains. I called it server.mycompany.it should I change this?

  • I always use regular databases. Create a blank database and grant owner permission to the user to be used by the web site ("Network Service", if you are using integrated Windows authentication). you do not need to tweek the web.config file manually, the DNN install wizard will present you with the necessary questions

If you can avoid using a virtual directory, please do. If allowed by the hosting company, configure the web site to be an ASP.Net 2.0 application and point it to your c:\mywebsite physical folder. There should be an option in IIS Web Site configuration to switch between ASP.Net 1.1 and 2.0, make sure it is set to ASP.Net 2.0.

Make sure, the name server routes  server.mycompany.it  to your web server and the web server routes it to your web site (if there are multiple sites on the same IP address, you need to assign host header values to the sites).

Now call your website by entering the domain address  server.mycompany.it  into the address bar of the browser.

Hi,

I do not know if I can avoid using a virtual directory. There is Plesk installed in the server. I can not find a way to configure aspnet 2.0 to point to the physical folder.

I do not see any option in IIS that allows me to switch between asp.net 1.1 and 2.0

I have also installed aspnet 3.5 but the properites window in IIS does not change.

I am too much a newbie, I think, to be able to handle all this. I have been able to install the dotnetnuke on a PC, and I thought it could be about the the same on a virtual server, but I do not see how I can manage all these things you are telling me.

I am not ready to give up, but I am not far away from.

Thanks

Enzo,

you might want to look at the installation tutorials at www.mitchelsellers.com.

which access do you have to your server? Plesk only or RDP as well?
