Just installed DNN 5 and noticed that there are module definitions and extentions.

What is the difference?

Module Definitions is a legacy view with the same old features.

Extensions is the "new" way of doing things.  It is an aggregate view with Skins, Containers, Modules, Libraries, Skin Objects, and more.  Basically anything that is an "extension" to the core framework.

What about the new Dashboard Control Extensions?

Also, is the Manage Dashboard Controls link erroring out for anyone else in 5.0.1?

If I develop a module do I have to develop it differently for it to be an extension

No, its litterally just phasing out the term 'Module' and replacing with it 'Extension'. They install the exact same way, and I believe most DNN4 modules should install without too much fuss in DNN5.
