Dear all,

I have noticed a strange behavior using DotNetNuke on Vista and IE7. Whenever i wish to change anything in modules settings i'm prompted with the error hmessage "object not set to an instance of an object". This behavior occurs when using IE7 on Vista only. i've tried using Firefox 3 it works fine on Vista (although i noticed Firefox crashes when we try to browse any directoy whether for a logo etc...)  and i also tried using IE7 on Microsoft Server 2003 and everything works fine too. I'm hosting my portal on a remote server with Server 2003 as OS.

I think this is a permissions problem of some sort on Vista but i can't seem to put my hand on it. Does anyone there have an idea? Or Have solved this same issue?

Best Regards,

Mazen.

Mazen,

I run IE7 on Vista Ultimate on my computer and regular maintain a number of DNN sites without a problem.  This sounds like an issue with IE7 settings preventing something on the client side from being initialized.  I would make the following changes one at a time and test at each change.

First I would try deleting all temporary internet files...

  • From withing IE7, goto Tools > Options
  • Under "Browsing History" click [Delete]
  • In the "Delete Browsing History" window click [Delete all...]
  • Then try again

If that doesn't work, perhaps security settings are interfering,  Try resetting your security settings...

  • Go to the "Security" tab of the IE Options window.
  • If the option "Enable Proptected Mode (required restarting Internet Explorer)" is unchecked, try restting the security settings by clicking the button [Reset all zones to default].
  • You will have to restart IE (close all instances of IE that you have open then go back to your site.

If that doesn't work, try resetting all advanced settings...

  • Go to the "Advanced " tab of the IE Options window.
  • click the [Restore Advanced Settings] button.
  • Restart IE7 and try again.
  • If this didn'e work go back to the "Advanced " tab of the IE Options window.
  • under "Reset Internet Explorer Settings", click the [Reset] button

If none of this works post back here and someone else may have another suggestion.

I hope this helps,

Chuck

Dear Chuck,

First of all,Thank you for your help.

Second, I have tried all of the above, but nothing worked, same behavior. You see some activity when you press one of the buttons but you remain on the same page. when you press update or cancel again you're prompted with the message "object reference not set to an instance of an object".

Please if anyone has an idea about the subject help me, i'm open to suggestions.

Mazen.
