First of all, great job on releasing 5.0.1.  It is a huge leap forward, and will surely lead to even more improvments.  However... I have found a few interesting nuances and glitches (and I'm sure there are many more to be found) in the 5.0.1 version so far, and I'll list them below.  If anyone has any ideas or commentns about them, I'd love to hear it.

1. "Module "Friendly Name" - it does not appear that you can change the friendly names of modules any more.  The function is still there on the page, but it simply does not work.

2. Progress indicators - I previous 4.X DNN versions, there is a small progress indicator when making page settings or site settings changes that is not seen in 5.0.1.  This is frustratng because you can't tell when the system is working or when it's finished.

3. Tabs module - HUGE kudos on making all the admin functions free-standing modules so that we can move them around or modify the settings on them.  However, I have found that the Tabs modules WILL NOT work if it's located on a page with ANY other module.  May be an AJAX issue, but unless it's on a page of it's own, you cannot click on the pencil or the magnifying glass icons to be take to the page or the settings....they do nothing at all.

4. Recycle bin - many of us were hoping for a very simple improvement of the Recycle bin that would show where a deleted module came from before being sent to the recycle bin.  For example, you may have 5 Text/HTML modules in the bin that were deleted from various places in a site.  Unfrotunately, you have to restore each of them, one at a time, until you dicover the correct one, and then go back and delete the wrong ones again.  It would be a VERY simple upgrade to simply include the page name of where the deleted module came from.  We have written our own code to do just this, and would be willing to give it to the core team or anyone else who wants it.  It's VERY helpful!

5. Admin Skin & Container Uploads - if you haven't noticed yet, you can no longer upload a new skin or contain from the Admin Settings page as you used to be able too.  Why anyone removes convienience functions just to "upgrade" a system to a newer version is beyond me, but it was certainly fine where it was and made things much easier.  PLEASE put it back at the bottom of the Admin Settings for the next version...PLEASE

6. Layout Mode - After asking literally DOZENS of people, nobody has ever been able to explain the use or purpose of the "Layout Mode" in the top left corner of the page other than to confuse and frustrate people.  I don't know of anyone who has ever used it or even knows why it's actually there, but I'll be 99.9% of users would not miss it a bit, including myself!

7. Module Title text box - now I know I'm just being too darn picky, but when looking in the control panel, in the middle section where you add modules to a page, the box titled "Module Title" is 4 pixels too wide, and it throws of the layout a bit.  This is certainly nothing to be worked up about, but I thought someone show know.

Ending on a positive note, thanks again for another great product that I know will only get better!  You guys are working hard, and deserve tremendous credit for all your accomplishments.  While it's easy for many of us to sit out here and bash the system and various bugs found within it, we certainly can't do it better ourselves, or we probably would have already, so keep up the GREAT WORK!

Rob

Most of these are great finds and suggestions.  To get someone looking at it more quickly, you'd do best to add them as issues at http://support.dotnetnuke.com/ (assuming they haven't already been added).  Especially make sure to put your code up there for the Recycle Bin fix (and any other fixes you have code for) so that it can be reviewed and used.

The issue with number 5 (Admin Skin & Container Uploads) is that the ability to upload skins has been restricted to host users for security reasons.  See Cathal's blog post for more information.

The reason for number 6 (Layout Mode) is so that you can access the page if you have a module that breaks the page (you can, for example, get to the action menu to delete a module that redirects with an error whenever you normally try to access that page).  It isn't needed all that much by regular users, but it definitely does have its purposes.

Hope that helps,

6- I am not sure what the Layout mode is used for. It only tells me what panes a skin has. I think it should be moved down the menu hierarchy and be hidden until needed. From a usability perspective, only items that are used often should be visible all the time in the control panel and the other stuff should be tucked away.

5- Letting a host only be able to install a skin seems to be a good choice. You don't want admins install skins which have asp.net code which can access your dnn database and run ad hoc queries. I assume a skin can do that?

6) In DNN 5 you can only see the content panes this way, plus designers actually do find this useful. Also let's say you installed a dodgy module, it comes up with a error message, no buttons, action menu or anything. The only way you are going to be able to delete this module from the page is by using layout mode. I think (not sure) that module drag and drop only works with this mode as well.

5) I am assuming this is correct.

You can log the other issues in support.dotnetnuke.com but please make sure each point here is a seperate issue (don't just bundle them into one issue otherwise the issue will be withdrawn).

Many thanks

You can also manually craft a URL to the Module Settings control for that specific ModuleId / TabId combo. I've done this before we had a layout mode, quite handy...

/?tabid=#&moduleid=#&ctl=module

You can usually get the ModuleId from the HTML comment DNN outputs around each module block, or just goto SQL for the answer...

I haven't been able to get module drag/drop working at all in DNN 5.x
