I am working with a client right now who uses Passphrases instead of passwords for most of their AD accounts.

The AD provider will not authenticate the users who have pass phrases.  The passphrase has to be at least 4 words, at least two letters, and between 16 and 127 characters.

They assure me that the passphrases are being stored in the password field in AD.

They do have some users who just have regular passwords and they authenticate with the AD Provider without issue.

Can anyone think of a good reason why the passphrase wouldn't work assuming that they are stored in the password field?  I am at a loss here.

Thanks,

Stuart

Stuart, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to use LDAPBrowser and verify that the passphrases are indeed stored in the AD Password field.

Mike,

I agree, I don't think they are actually storing the passphrase in the password field even though they insist that they are.

i haven't wanted to spend a lot of time on this, but I think you are right. It is time to break out the ldap browser and see what I get.

Delved into LDAP land last night.  I realized that some users need the domain prefixed to their name, while others do not.   I have never seen that before.  Not sure what is up with that.
