Up to this point, DotNetNuke is just fantastic. Thanks for the efforts! I have one question that has been bothering me. I read in one of the DotNetNuke books for dummies that the user accounts are different in both the parent and child portals. But is there any way I could actually have the same accounts in all the portals but just that the roles keep changing on a per portal basis? Here's a small example:

My company will have two wings: Designers and Developers who will have their own portals for publishing content. Now I have a  Core that will launch these two teams. So if anyone registers into Designers or Developers team, they should be into the Core.

Thanks in advance...

I'm not a 100% sure about what you are after, but there are 3rd party modules that allow you to share user accounts across portals.

Thank you for your reply. Essentially, lets say I have two teams. Each team will have its own members but sometimes one team member can belong to two teams simultaneously. In that case, it would be better to have the member have just one ID but his role would change everytime he goes to a different portal. Hope I was able to convey this time...

You are in luck

If users registers (or is set up) with each portal using exactly the same username and password, then this is the default behaviour with DNN for all portals. However you still need to log in as an administrator into each portal to manage a user roles. Try it out and see.

Hope this helps.

Consider however why you actually need to have seperate portals for each dept.

You might find it far easier to just have one portal and assign role permissions to each team on a per page/module basis.... it just really depends on what you want to do. If you are going to give each dept administrator access to their own portal then maybe the portal approach is a good idea. If on the other hand you buy in some modules that create content like Ventrians news articles module (a bit like a blog), you can just give each dept access to a module instance on a seperate page and just use one portal. Content will be shared far more easily as well.
