Hi there

What would be recommended tools to load test a DotNetNuke site and also to prevent DOS attacks when running the site on Windows 2008 Standard?

OK, apart from ACT load testing, any other tools you may recommend?

When I refer to DOS attacks, anything specifically you would recommend taking into account on a module development/setup point of view, i.e. allowing posts from other domains etc? I think these are quite critical questions.

DOS/DDOS attacks are a web security/IIS/TCP-IP problem, not really a dotnetnuke specific problem i.e. many happen at the server/IIS level and don't even reach dotnetnuke e.g a syn/ack attack/POD etc http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/networking/?p=679 has some more details on common attacks.. I would advise you to ensure your IIS setup is hardened i.e. using tools such as http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/cc184924.aspx and locking down the server via http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324270 . High profile sites often use CDN/proxies such as akamai to protect against DOS (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,1000000121,39115920,00.htm)

As to tools, what you're really asking is capacity planning, which tools such as ACT, WCAT (http://www.iis.net/downloads/default.aspx?tabid=34&i=1466&g=6) and the VSTS performance profile are used for (http://channel9.msdn.com/posts/TheChannel9Team/Ian-Huff-Using-VSTS-Performance-Tools-to-Speed-Up-Your-App-Part-1/)

 Hi Raldo,

I'm on-site right now with a large customer who we're helping out with a multi-server DotNetNuke configuration including setup, configuration, and testing.  I'd love to know what you're doing and if there is anything we can do to help you out as we have a lot of expierence in the big-DNN arena.

Drop me an email if you're interested in talking. My address is Tony.Valenti@PowerDNN.com
