Our site was working fine and without changing any code I start getting the following JavaScript error…

Object expected - Search.js, line 44 character 3

The debugger points to...

var searchIcon = $get('SearchIcon')

I have created a fresh install of 4.9.2 but it started happening again. I restored a backup of a time when it was working well and it started again. I was running a previous version and it was doing the same time.

It is critical that we get this working because we need to put it into production. After spending a couple of months making graphics, modifying the skin, programming modules as well as purchasing some third party modules I really want to get this working. Can someone please help!

did you install other modules / Skins, which might use Javascript as well and might interfere?

Yes, I have installed other modules that use Javascript.

When I recreated the website from the ground up I tried to slowly make changes and make backups so I could tell what might be causing the problem. Unfortunatly everything seemed to be working and then without any further changes it started giving me the error again.

Also, I noticed that if I modify dnn:Search in the index.ascx page to...="false"

instead of true the error goes away. But it doesn't look as good in the dnn menu. Of course if I remove the dnn.Search completely the page loads fine as well. Thanks for your quick response.

Also, I installed ASP.NET Framework 3.5 on the server and System.Web.Extensions.dll that is in the BIN folder so that I could get the tabbed user control to work on one of my custom but the problem didn't start at that time.

CORRECTION

Also, I noticed that if I modify dnn:Search in the index.ascx page to...

UseDropDownList="false"

instead of true the error goes away.

I found the problem. In the web.config file I was referencing the wrong version of System.Web.Extensions.Design. I had to replace 1.0.61025.0 with 3.5.0.0.

add assembly="System.Web.Extensions.Design, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"

This was because I installed .NET 3.5 on the server so I could use some AJAX controls.
