Hi Folks,

I have a DNN project where the customer consists of 12+ groups. They want a single domain like mydomain.com for all groups but after a user logs in the customer wants the user to go to a main page for his/her group. It doesn’t stop there because basically each group would have their own set of pages with no access to another group's pages. In essence it would be like each group had their own separate web site.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a best practices approach? Are there examples of a good approach out there on the web? I am on DNN version 4.08.02 in an ASP.NET 2.0, VS2005 environment. Would newer versions 4.9 or maybe 5 provide features that would help with this? Are there any commercial products that would help?

Thanks for any help,
G. M.

I would use a single DotNetNuke installation and create a main site and a site for each of the groups.

I would use one of the available "single sign on" modules to have your users login at the main page, and then use security roles to redirect logged in users to the appropriate group site.  I believe that you can do this with Dynamic Login from Datasprings.

Make the group sites available only to authenticated uses in the appropriate roles.

I have not personally used a single sign on module, so I can't vouch for any, but perhaps someone else can.

Thanks Joe. If I understand you, you are suggesting multiple sites within a single DNN installation. Correct? I haven't tried that with a production site but it is one route I was considering because it is unlikely that any of these groups would want to break off on their own.

I wrote a module exactly like your requirement and would love to customize it for your needs. It also provides event subscription and management, RSVP.
