Morning folks,

I finally decided to take our department to DNN and now I have problems when I've had none previously with DNN. I just installed DNN 3.2.2 on a clean machine and had no problems with the install. It was when I tried to create a second portal and gave it an alias of localhost/tracy, then I navigate to http://localhost/tracy I get "Page Cannot Be Found" error when it tries to take me to that portal. Its as if the aliasing isn't working because it can't resolve the localhost/tracy to localhost/1. Anyone having this problem? I've had this problem with every install I've made of the 3.* versions and even the 4.0.2 version.

Thanks

Yes, I'm replying to my own message but I have been doing a little troubleshooting trying to verify whether my assumption is correct or not. My assumption is that the resolution process of the HTTPModule which resolves an alias to its true path isn't actually doing its job. I added to the host portal an alias of localhost/dnn when the actual path is localhost/Intranet just to see if it resolved the alias and redirected me to the host portal. IT DIDN'T! Now with this little bit of knowlege, does anyone have an idea how I can verify that the HTTPModule is actually working properly?

The way I do it is to create a child portal that would be accessed by http://host/dnn/portal

If you then want to access this site by a different url, add the desired alias (for example http://www.host.com/portal) in your portal config.  The final step is to configure your IIS (if that's what you use), so that when the alias adress is hit, the user is sent to your dnn application.

Hope this helps.

Just to let you know, I decided to go back to DNN-3.1.1 but now I get the same exact problem with DNN-3.1.1 as with DNN-3.2.2. Am I actually using the Aliasing correctly? Is the HTTP Module working? Can someone please explain this to me because it used to be so simple to do this stuff and now it takes forever to get this stuff right. The documentation on Aliasing is almost none existant and I see that there are tons of folks having the same issues so can someone please give a little guidance on this or are you too busy signing book deals to deal with what actually got you there in the first place?
