Hi, I just heard that a change in how I.E. handles Active-X controls will occur around June 2006 and that all webpages must be re-coded to prevent users from having to "activate" each of the controls before viewing. The link I was given that gives more detail is Here.

It looks as if some of the larger players (i.e. Flash, Quicktime, etc.) are working to come out with a new version to avoid this, but I was wondering if anyone could comment on the implications of this on DNN.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I noticed this when working on a DNN skin that used a Flash banner. It's very annoying. Despite its annoyance, I don't see anything DNN can do about this. All web applications will be affected in the same manner, so the only real answer is to wait until the major players come out with a fix.

There's further info on this here:

And it says it will be out on April the 11th

To Quote:

Although news of this has been around for a while, many people seem to have missed it and/or didn’t think it was worth reading up on. On the contrary, the implications of this are huge and will most likely affect a lot of web sites. Due to the patent case with Eolas, Microsoft has been forced to update how ActiveX components behave in web pages.

This dreaded update, named Microsoft Security Advisory (912945), has been available for a couple of months, but on April 11 it will be forced out en masse through Windows Update so we have a few days till all hell breaks loose. If you want to test your web pages before that, you can download the patch and install it right now.
