I'm getting notices from my hosting provider that my DotNetNuke database is reaching it's quota which is surprising because it's not that heavily used. I'm trying to figure out what tables I can truncate.

SiteLog and EventLog are pretty big, can I safely truncate those tables? Are there any other recommendations for making the database smaller?

thanks

Nick

Accepted Answer

Truncate sitelog, eventlog and schedulehistory.

There are Schedule Jobs which may take care of this for the frequently (according to host / site settings).

Clear the recycle bin.

Those two tables are most often the cause of db growth and worsening performance. Yes, you can safely truncate them - but I would look through the EventLog first to see if there are recurring errors that are being logged. If you do not need the data it gathers, you should turn off the SiteLog or limit its content to just a few days for a busy site.

In addition, the database's transaction log may have become quite large. Most likely, your hosting provider will have to truncate the transaction log for you, although one of the hosts that I use frequently provides a command button to truncate the transaction log from its MS SQL control panel.
