Hi,

I am trying to setup my website to use friendly urls. I have configured the default DNN friendlyUrl provider in the web.config by setting the urlformat="HumanFriendly". Now when I create a page for example the About Us page, the page is named as AboutUs.aspx.

My question is, does it matter for search engines like google if there should be a hyphen between About and Us (About-Us.aspx) or is it fine if I can just use the format as it is (AboutUs.aspx). I mean they do look like 2 words! There was somewhere I read that if there is a hyphen in between words, it's much better, but the example given was when all words are small case so for example about-us.aspx is better than aboutus.aspx, but in my case all my words have first letter as upper case. So, is About-Us.aspx better than AboutUs.aspx or it doesn't matter?

If there are any suggestion please let me know. Also is there a setting in the default DNN friendlyUrl provider where I can put a hyphen between words?

I have tried a thirdy party solution from ifinity's Friendly Url but it seems to have issues with RSS so I need to know if the default DNN friendlyUrl provider supports hyphens.

Looking forward to some positive feedback.

Thanks,
Wasim

Wasim,

I do believe there is a benefit of using a - between words so something like About-Us.aspx, or even better I believe all lower case is the best so about-us.aspx.

However, I'm not an expert when it comes to SEO.  I'd recommend that you reach out to Tom Kraak at Seablick Consulting (www.seablick.com) as he is one of the best DNN SEO guys that I know.

I personally use URL Master, on problematic pages I simply exclude them from friendly URLs if I have to.
