So I took the layout at

http://www.djevenflo.com/
and skinned it to
http://www.cyberfetishdolls.com/evenflo/

The DNN skinned version is about 5+ seconds a load where as the originial is pretty much instant...

I realize there's some overhead that's going to come from using DNN but that seems a little excessive..

Is there stuff I can tweak?

just the recommended way?

So I found the compression settings in the host settings of the site but they seem to have had no affect

I'm on discountasp.net

I set caching to HEAVY

MOdule Caching Method to Memory

Compression Settings to Gzip

and it appears to have had zero affect

and nothing is being compressed
