Ive just installed the blog module, 3.05.01, and have a couple of questions:

First, what's the best way to provide a summary from each of the last 3 or 4 blogs on the home page?

Second, I want to display avatars when one of my members posts a comment. I see the link for Gravatars, but since they already have an avatar in their profiles, why have them go for another one? I want to be able to display the avatar from the profile.

Thanks,

Steven

Hi Steven,

showing the last entries form the blogs into the home page can be done in several ways, it's up to you to chose:

  1. Use an instance of the XML module to consume the blogs' feed and an .xslt transfromation file;
  2. Use an instance of the Newsfeed module to consume the blogs' feed;
  3. Use an instance of the Reports module and grab the latest entries in the Blog_Entries table sorted by date;
  4. Use Blog Display, a 3rd party module available from Radiant.

Regarding the avatar: not all DNN installs feature a gravatar property for their users, thus we used an external free provider to give all users this feature. Note that using Gravatar also allows unregistered users to have their avatar displayed. We would be glad to have the Blog module display the author's/commenter's avatar, but at the moment the framework doesn't use a standard field for this.

If you have any further question, feel free to come back to this support forum.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Correction:

4. Use Blog Display, a 3rd party module available from Radiant. (the link to Radiant website is incorrect).

Correct Link:
