New user (or attempting to be one - if I get far enough to actually see/do anything with dnn)

The .\install\install.aspx?mode=install could not find dotnetnuke.config in the '\config folder. It insisted on \\ double-backslashing the URL and didn't seem aware of the config folder. When I copy the dotnetnuke.config file to the virtual root then it progesses to the following point.

Error message reads: (I've truncated the full path to .\ )

Could not find a part of the path .\Config\Backup_200942256\web_.config'.Access to the path '.\web.config' is denied.

IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 Standard; ASP v2.0

Network Service has full control of virtual root - even added in aspnet just to cover that base.

SQL 2005 standard, running as sa for now. Believe SQL is communicating with the initial install proc because a new table dbo.dnn_Version has been created (with one row of null column content).

One thing I notice is that the folder backup_200942256\web_.config reference is to a path that doesn't exist on the website. No .\config\backup_* folder exists.

.\config is as far as that path extends. And, there is no file named web_.config (note the underscore) anywhere that I can locate.

Sincerely & befuddledly yours,
Gordon

Which version number of DNN? Are you using the install version? lThis is a fresh install?

If you create a helloworld.htm (with some text) on the root of your site can you view it with the correct URL?

I suggest you delete the database and files and start again. Make sure all files are copied across (note some ZIP installers don't copy all files across).

Have you made sure all child objects get the permissions (right click on website folder, Security, Advanced).

Hello Alex,

DNN Version 04.09.02, fresh install. Site publishes std html document without a problem. Leased server with full access.

Have removed domain from server, and reinstalled domain. Gave network services full control over the root folder(httpdocs) with child folders, etc and verified. Deleted SQL database and recreated same. Fixed connectionstring to match system, added the dnn_ object provider.

.\Install\InstallWizard.aspx comes up after entering the default.aspx URL.

1st error can't find dotnetnuke.config. Copied the dotnetnuke.config to .\ due to the appearance of the \\ URL.

browsing to .\default.aspx redirects to .\Install\InstallWizard.aspx and generates the following error.

DotNetNuke Error: - Version 04.09.02

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DotNetNuke Configuration Error
Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Inetpub\vhosts\uswebhostcentral.com\httpdocs\Config\Backup_200942924\web_.config'.Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\vhosts\uswebhostcentral.com\httpdocs\web.config' is denied.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Disable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

Obviously - whatever is 'not right' remains not right - as near as I can tell, I've followed the install document word for word - using the install distribution, unzipping to a temp folder, then copying the entire contents to the httpdocs folder.

Regards,
Gordon

if you are on a fresh install, I strongly suggest to clear all files, delete and recreate database and restart from scratch

make sure to grant full access in file system for ASP,Net  account ("Network Service" by default)

At this point, I have done 3 fresh installs - all have had the same outcome -

DNN installation notes:

#1. cleared domain off server - reinstalled domain with ASP.NET 2.0.50727
#2. unnzipped DotNetNuke_Community_04.09.02_Install.zip to the root folder (httpdocs)
#3. created fresh/new SQL database for the site
#4. Gave both NETWORK SERVICE & [server]\ASPNET full control of root and all child folders in the domain
#5. Made the recommended changes to the default web.config file
#6. Adjusted passwords for SuperUser and Administrator to match up with ASPMembership standards.

I end up with the install breaking very early on - being unable to 'access' a non-existent path and file - then saying it cannot access the root folder web.config because the httpdocs\Config\Backup_200943426\web_.config cannot be found (and it cannot, because it does not exist).

I don't know - I've followed the documentation as best I can; but something is missing in the instructions or perhaps DNN doesn't like some peculiarity of my server's setup,  In any event, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

Based on what happens (the backup_2009????? folder name increments when you repost to URL after a couple minutes, I'm thinking that DNN must be trying to create this backup_2009????? folder make a copy of web.config called web_.config for whatever reason, as an initial step in the installation process. I even created the folder name and placed a copy of web.config renamed web_.config in the folder and it still says access denied. I check the folder security and both network service and server\aspnet have full control.

Regards,

Gordon
