Hello

I want to create a site that is fully validated. I was reading a tutorial which suggested that I might have to edit the source code of 3rd party modules.

How do I install the source code so that I can edit it, instead of the PA?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Laura

Are you a developer? Are you looking at rewriting the source files that are provided with the download. Every module here is available for download including source - you might have to check the project pages to pickup the particular module.

What tutorial were you reading to give you this information?  This concerns me unless of course it was a module developer type of tutorial because I feel we may be giving mixed messages to people and getting questions such as this.

I think you should be looking at learning more about DotNetNuke before jumping into something that requires a mix of skills and in this instance, coding, which takes us to another level of upgradability - it will then be a site out of synch with normall upgrade functionality.

Where ever you read this tutorial, I suggest you go back to the author and start asking them to provide clearer answers so that people like you, and now me, don't get confused.  You would have to recompile your source to create the PA again.

What dnn install are you looking at developing in, and what version? Are you looking at doing the source changes in aspnet 1.1 or aspnet2? If you are looking at using aspnet1.1 framework, there are issues with that which may stop you from developing a fully compliant build, due to the aspnet 1.1 constraints.

Hello Nina

Thank you for the reply.

Sorry I should have been clearer I did not mean to confuse anybody.

The DNN validation tutorial that I am referring to is:

http://www.obrienit.se/Hem/tabid/36/Default.aspx

Within the section:

Debugging the HTML

Instructions to edit modules (which come already packaged in the DNN download) in order for them to validate are given.

The tutorial then goes on:

“The same process can be used for all modules. The common issues in creating valid modules have been highlighted here. Of course, if you don't have source code to a 3rd party control that generates html within the dll rather than the ascx you have a problem.”

This is what I am unsure about. Basically if I find that a 3rd party module, need to be edited for I don’t know how to install the source code. Because the procedure for installing modules to DNN, will only accept the PA.

What steps do I need to follow if I want to install the source code instead of the PA?

Thanks.

Regards

Laura

Laura,

If I were you, I would emailing the guy who wrote that tutorial and asking him how he's done it.

Did he compile? Did he open a few files and make some changes..

Since he's done it successfully, he'd be the person to ask, not here, when we don't even know what he's done to validate them.

Have you tried contacting him?
