I am trying to have one instance of DNN with multiple domain names. For example www.domain.com and www.domainXYZ.com.

everytime I create a child  or parent portal I get this error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

In looking through past posts I see this is possible (multiple domains). I have also check the documentation on this, but it has not solved my issue. If some one can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks

OK a couple of things I see here...

Can you identify something.

Are you looking at having a domain name with lots pointed to it - for marketing reasons..

Or Are you looking at having domains/sites under the same instance?

If you clarify this, then I can give you a specific answer, since I'm not sure what you're trying to do, but your sort of doing something along the lines, but the wrong way about it.

Do what the error message tells you to do:

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

Now that you know what the real error is, post it here and it will make helping you a lot easier.

I have already done that the entry in my web.config file is this
<customErrors mode="Off" />
Am I doing something wrong?

To answer the question from Nina:
I am trying to have one instance of DNN and host many websites / different URLs from different companies. I thought this was possible but I think I am going about this the wrong way.

Is anyone else doing this? I can't imagine I am the only one with this need.
