Starter Kit is for users of Visual Studio for Web Developers (VWD), who want to create Web Site, Modules and/or Skins with this IDE.

All others shall use install package (I always perfer to use install even for develeopment).

Hello Sebastian.

You seem to be quite knowledgeable about DNN.  I appreciate your willingness to help others.

When you say "even for development", does that mean you make changes by adding modules and portals as the host/admin and modifying the VB code behind and HTML?

I'm trying to understand what the limits are as far as changing DNN to create my own web site and sites for customers.

Thanks,
Tony

"for development" means to create modules (and skins). Adding content to a web site and installation of modules and other extensions in a production site should always be done using installation package.

Some developers prefer to use source version for development, to be able to follow the code, how the Core API is implemented (and core team uses source version to fix bug and add enhancements).

Starter kit contains VS templates for modules and skins, you may use it to install those separately.
