I wonder what the good way to develop a Dotnetnuke based site. What I am doing is uploading install package to host. Then I install modules which are developed and tested in local. I am not sure it is good approach or not. Please tell me how you do it.

The best way to develop any site is to plan the content in advance and sketch out what you want on the pages in your site. Once you know this then you can use DotNetNuke to add the pages and child pages that you want to have. Find the modules that you'll need to have for your pages. Don't forget to go to the Control Panel after you logged in as host and click on Install Additional Modules. There you can find additional modules that you might want to use on your pages. Also, if you don't find what your looking for in the default modules with DNN then you can go to the Marketplace or Snowcovered.com to find the module that you need to have for your site.

Finally, choose a skin that you want to have for your site. You can find free skins, find a skin on snowcovered or the marketplace or learn how to create your own skin.

Keep  learning more about the capabilities of DotNetNuke.

Good luck.

it's most save to develop the site in place and make it publically accessible, when it meets your requirements.

you can also develop locally and transfer all files and database, but this requires to be careful, use the same relative location of the portal and relative links only.

Thank you.

Which package should we use? Install? Source?... I know someone developed in source or staterkit package and published it before uploading to host. Is it safe?

if you wan to use installation to develop your own modules, you may use Starter Kit or Source, otherwise use install package.
