I just upgraded three installations, inculding localhost, from 4.9.2 to 4.9.3. After trying to change the Terms agreement in the Language Editor, I get the error:

A File Operation Failed. Please Check Resource File Permissions So Files Can Be Edited.

This happens both on the Host language editor and on the Admin language editor. Even if I don't make a change and just go in and click Update, I get the error.

This worked fine in 4.9.2. I have looked for where the language resource files might be, but I can't find them. To do the upgrade, I unzipped the DotNetNuke_Community_04.09.03_Upgrade.zip file over the original web root directory, after backing up the site and db. Then I browsed to site/install/install.aspx and it did the upgrade successfully.

Does anybody have any ideas about 1) why this happened, and 2) how I can fix it?

Thanks.

Can't reproduce this in a virgin install

I suspect you need to refresh you file permissions from the parent folder downwards...

In explorer right click website folder/security - check you have the right permissions/Advanced/Permissions/Tick Replace permissions on all child objects.... etc

I suspect you have the files there, because you can see text before you edit it I assume?

I tried replacing permissions but some files were blocked. Guess I'll have to reboot and retry.

I found the file for the language changes in App_GlobalResources/GlobalResources.resx, made the text changes there and FTP them to the site. That fixed the text but still get the error if I try to change it online.

On localhost, Network Service and System show Full Control for both the file and its folder.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with unzipping the upgrade over top of the files.

I'm stuck with the same problem. Triple checked all file permissions. Restarted IIS, Rebooted the whole server. And I still got the file access error. Are there only the two of us with this error ?! Any suggestions are welcome!

We can confirm that this is a problem, however, we are reluctant to submit a bug report because it is our opinion that the core team will probably view this as something not important and instead focus all resources on v5.1 (even though we do see a problem, we can see both sides of discussion on whether to spend anymore time on 4.9.x).

Our test environment and process:

  • 1 site with 4.9.2.
    • Accessed and made changes to GlobalResources through language with no problems.  Upgraded site to 4.9.3.  Again accessed and made changes to GlobalResources and get this message:
      • A File Operation Failed. Please Check Resource File Permissions So Files Can Be Edited.
    • Rolled back site to 4.9.2.  Again accessed and made changes to GlobalResources.  Works flawlessly.
    • We also tested the SharedResources editing and it works either in 4.9.2 or 4.9.3
    • We also attempted Alex's suggestions and they all don't work
  • New install with 4.9.3
    • As Alex reported, there are no problems in editing GlobalResource.
